If you visit Walgreens for your prescriptions, its prescription savings club could save you money on your medications. The Rx discount for Walgreens members is around 80 percent of prescription drugs, 20 percent off most vaccinations, and savings on presentation and lifestyle medications.
Your insurance will only cover medications as your policy states. Prescription insurances typically do not have lifestyle and preventative medication coverage, such as for weight and hair loss. Even prescriptions, like for erectile dysfunction, are not usually under most insurance policies.
However, the Walgreens medication discount can cut the cost of these non-covered medications. You can receive discounts on:
- Brand-name and generic prescriptions
- Vaccinations
- Preventative and lifestyle medications
- Pet medications
- Compound medications
- Nebulizers and diabetic supplies
Depending on which tier your prescription falls under, you could pay only $5, $10, or $15 for a 30-day supply of a generic drug. However, Walgreens reserves the right to change prices and move drugs to different tiers.
When you are a part of the Rx savings club, you receive discounts on your prescriptions. Even if you left your Rx discount card at home, Walgreens would still give you the discount. However, you will need the card to earn and redeem bonuses on Walgreen-brand products.
You can earn a 10 percent bonus credit for buying Walgreens and Nice! branded products when you scan your Walgreens Prescription Savings Club at the register. The card tracks your bonus credits and will automatically have your credit, so you can deduct the bonus amount from your next purchase of eligible goods.
Rx discounts for Walgreens club members only work at the store’s pharmacies. CVS and RiteAid will not give you the same values when you present your Walgreens Rx discount card.
The club membership is open whether you have health insurance or not. Like GoodRx, you cannot combine your health insurance with the membership’s discounts.
You can use the Prescription Savings Club to order eligible prescriptions online once you set up an account. You can pick up your drugs at your preferred Walgreens pharmacy or choose delivery to your home. Walgreens even offers Same Day Rx Delivery for an additional fee.
It is $20 a year for individuals and $35 annually for families. Family membership can include yourself, your spouse, your dependents, and your pets. Dependents must be younger than 23 years of age to be in a family membership. Other adult family members, such as grandparents, will need a separate membership.
Before joining, you can check if the membership covers your prescriptions to see if the annual cost is worth it. Unfortunately, the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club is not available if you live in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Washington, or North Dakota.
